Slate is a naturual product and natural flaws are common, not defects in your stone. Stone slabs reaching the market come from mountains that are many years of age and any inherent flaws are a part of the natural character of the stone.
Each Memorial comes with protective rubber tabs on the base, these are easily removed if attaching this item to walls. 
We recommend using a strong adhesive if attaching this to a wall.
